ST LOUIS ARCH

Finally made it to St Louis ! The Arch is truly beautiful .Unfortunately they stopped lighting it up at night. They say it is because birds are flying into it  but I'm sure they just cant afford it.  There is a park surrounding it and you can ride to the top for about 20 dollars a person. The last  tall building we went up was the Twin Towers about a month before 9/11. We decided to pass as we had only one afternoon here and of course the obvious.

If you are traveling in a motor home stay at the Casino Queen RV  Park. This was our view of the arch from the park. It is completely automated with no park staff. Just a series of coded doors. Make sure you bring your own snickers bars as the candy machine did not work. Very disappointing. It is across from a casino so the casino security does patrol. Just a walk across the bridge to Downtown St Louis.

Actually a day in St Louis is ample. Not much left to this dying city except dilapidated brick buildings . Very sad to see population dwindling to 350,000 people .
We ate at the Sugar fire Smokehouse Restaurant . This is the 3 meat special costing 19.99 and a side of deep fried artichoke hearts . Plenty of food for two. I have had better brisket but for a large place it was great. The best part was the 8 sauces representing all the various regional barbecue styles.  We had great fun tasting them all .I found the white sauce and the mustard sauce to be very pleasant. Its nice to try new things.
Erik expanding his photography skills.
Here's Erik fulfilling his life dream of touching the St Louis Arch. Unfortunately people have scratched their names all over the stainless steel  .

And of course we cant forget the Smashed Pennies. That is truly what life is all about .

HAVING BIG FUN IN URANUS !!!!

Our favorite route 66 roadside stop was Uranus Missouri.  So much childish potty humor .They must have had a blast creating Uranus Missouri.  Definitely worth a  stop. Probably 6 businesses revolving around Uranus.

Erik loved this place. Really appealed to his love of potty humor.
The big question is what  kind of tattoo would you get in Uranus ?
All the signs in this place are hilarious. They have a restaurant , bar, tattoo  parlor , general store and and snack bar.  At one point they had ax throwing but the maintenance man told us the insurance company refused to cover it since the incident where someone broke the rules and crossed the line. he shook his head and said it was pretty bad.  I guess the bar was not the best place for ax throwing .
And as  luck would have it they has smashed pennies !!!
All in all a nice respite from the road. The employees are full of "Uranus " jokes. Even Erik's alien friend that thanks you for picking Uranus !!!

WINNING !!!!!!!!!

Had fun in Laughlin.  You have to take it for what it is . A dying destination. It has lost its lustre but as long as Don keeps pumping me free rooms , food and movies it makes for a great couple of days. My big win was 3000 coins . Too bad they were just pennies. Saw the movie "Yesterday " . By far the best film we have seen all year.
Driving down the 40 there was a big fire in Flagstaff Arizona. Pretty close to the freeway. That time of year I guess.
We have traveled this stretch of highway a few times. It has been quite a while and most of the Route 66 in Arizona and western New Mexico have fallen into disrepair. We will see Eastern New Mexico and Texas today.
Stayed at the route 66 RV park in Albuquerque NM last night. Back to playing in the land of giant RVs. We are always tickled by how small we look next to the behemoths.
The view out my back window this morning.  Now this is truly winning .......

OUR FIRST CROSS COUNTRY BUYING TRIP

This will be our home away from home for the next 20 something days. It is a 1999 Volkswagon / Winnabago Rialta. After careful consideration and shopping for a small replacement Rv we decided our baby of 14 years had almost everything we needed so we had her refurbished. Shes better than when we bought her 14 years ago. Thank you Pop Top Heaven.
Sixteen mpg and easy to drive is a rare find . Even in today's market. Smaller flexible solar panels are finally available for permanent installation. Also most electronics are now able to be powered with marine batteries so we are fully self sufficient.
We are embarking on a buying trip up route 66 to Chicago , The worlds longest Garage sale ( US 127 from Michigan to Alabama )and over to Arkansas for their version of a giant highway  sale. Along the way we will be working on our social media platforms for our Ebay stores and a new Etsy presence.
As we need an area for work we took out the middle passenger seats /bed. Here's our office, storage and leisure area. The front captains chairs flip around and the totes will become furniture. I even have a printer that functions on the road. Technology has come a long way.

We have a fully functional kitchen with a gas range, microwave , sink and refrigerator. Behind that is a dinette booth that converts into a queen size bed.
You have no idea how many clothes are in that closet .
Nice little toilet with a pull out shower. No we don't really use the shower. Rv parks usually have pretty good ones and as its going to be hot our there so we need plugins for our air conditioner. Not much boondocking is in the cards for this trip. It looks like we will be chasing the heat wave on its way out but its still going to be hot.
Theres the cockpit !!! Where I am now working on my blog resurrection . On our way to Laughlin Nevada as Don is giving us some free rooms and prime  rib dinner.

WHERE THE HELL IS LOONEYVILLE ?

I sell and ship all over the world. Belarus, Israel , Brazil you name it. For the last 5 years we have talked about getting a world map and putting a pin in each location. This one however takes the cake. This label I printed out is from our record store Rock_O_Bilia. Yup its from "LOONEYVILLE". The fact that there is in fact a Looneyville is amazing but what amazed me most is that I can send something to Looneyville and it will be delivered. NO address.  What kind of place is this ? I know there are still small towns out there but really?
Like always I started to daydream about Looneyville. How great to live in a town where you don't need an address. What does downtown Looneyville look like? Do they drive around in clown cars? I don't know why but Disneys Toontown keeps coming to mind. Then again do I really want to live in a town where everyone knows where I live. I'm sure they don't have a Starbucks or Sprouts Grocery ? No Target or Plant Nursery!!! No thank you. I do have my limits.
I do know that I have now become aware of the state of West Virginia. The local weather man mentioned that it snowed there . I immediately thought of those poor souls in Looneyville. I even worried of the effects of hurricane Sandy on my poor little Toontown. Live in Looneyville ? Eh  , maybe.

WHAT I GOT AT THE AUCTION...

This is my latest haul. Just in time for the holidays ! Tons of vintage jewelry and a rather substantial Salt and Pepper Shaker collection. I love selling big collections as it really signifies the meat and potatoes of Ebay. Being an Ebayer for some 12 years now I have grown along with them. It sure has changed but the real core of the business is collectibles.
Taking a life's work of collecting and allowing the pieces to breathe new life into someone Else's collection has a great feeling. I know that sounds strange but I know it makes people happy. We all have those things that are special to us. Make us feel good.
Personally I love working with the jewelry. I don't wear it but I love to look at it. Take pictures of it and sell it. I couldn't ask for a better occupation. No its not glamorous and it certainly isn't popular, try telling someone you sell crap on on Ebay , then watch their face. But I do love it.
I have recently listed 200+ pieces of jewelry with more to come. You are welcome to check out the store Dageland_Curios. woohoo I can still link!! Click on the blue letters to go there!!!
This however is my pride and joy. As some of you know I have letters from many WWII soldiers. I will eventually be writing a book using characters drawn from these letters. This find was fantastic!!! 3 years of letters from 1943 to 1945. Plus photo album to boot.

Yup 1943 from "Somewhere in Italy". All week long this box has taunted me, quietly called my name..Lisa come read us...... I think they need to go in the closet in the house. I know once I crack those letters I'm lost. Facebook has nothing on wartime love letters.
